Ted Moyle

There are some whom we see in church every Sunday, working quietly and without fanfare. We know them, for they are so faithful and do so much. Such a person is Ted Moyle,

Ted was born in Toronto, but at an early age moved with his family to Montreal. After World War II, Ted and his mother moved back to Toronto, where he became associated with Yorkminster Baptist Church, and was baptized by the Rev. W. A. Cameron.

When Ted first began his volunteering at the church it was as an usher. His father had for many years been a deacon of the church, and Ted wanted to be of service. Until he was asked to usher, Ted was an avid golfer. Perhaps it would be more correct to say that he still is an avid golfer, but in those days, his foursome used to play each Sunday. Ushering at Yorkminster Park meant that he would have to give up his regular Sunday outings. There was a price to be paid for this, in terms of the enjoyment itself, and also in the relationships he had held with other members of his group. Ted was ready to pay the price. Ever since, he has been found greeting new and old attendees alike with his warm smile and words of greeting.

Ted’s wife Muriel was keenly interested in Meals-on-Wheels, and after their marriage Ted joined her on Mondays. It was only when Muriel became ill that he gave this up. Since his retirement, he continues to help with Meals-on-Wheels on Mondays and Thursdays. This volunteer job has been going on for 30 years.

The Out-of-the-Cold program also caught his attention. He first worked out of Christ Church, Deer Park, and later, when, under the ministry of the Rev. Kerr Spiers, Yorkminster Park became involved, Ted became part of the team at this church.

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the many volunteers in our church. To Ted, and all the others, we say, “Thank you, and well done.”
