Employment Opportunity - Children’s Ministry Associate

Yorkminster Park Baptist Church (YPBC) is a large urban church serving a diverse community and a member of the Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec. YPBC is looking for a part-time children's ministry associate to support the Director of Family Ministries in working with children and their parents and encouraging intergenerational connection within the church.

Purpose: to assist the Director of Family Ministries to minister to children and their families.

Reports to: Director of Family Ministries

Time: 15 hours a week, divided as needed. Must be consistently available on Sunday mornings

Duration: Initial 12-month contract with possible extension to permanent part-time position.

Qualifications:
• Active and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ, evidenced by action, attitude and behavior
• Fully embraces the mission, vision and values of YPBC
• A heart for children's ministry and enthusiasm to inspire and encourage children in their lives of faith
• Demonstrated ability to relate to children from birth through Grade 5 and communicate effectively with parents/caregivers and volunteer leaders
• Ability to lead a dynamic children's worship time and teach children in small group settings
• A team player who is capable of working independently when necessary
• Dependable in following through on commitments
• A teachable heart (eagerness to learn and grow in faith)
• Organized, responsible and relational
• Minimum two years of experience leading children's programs, gained in church, camp, or equivalent settings, including as a volunteer, intern, or paid staff
• Facility with technology, AV systems and social media is desirable
• Musical ability is an asset

Specific duties:
• Set up for Sunday morning children's program and coordinate sign-in process
• Prepare for and lead elementary school age children in "large group" worship and teaching session on Sunday mornings; assemble/prepare materials for pre-school and elementary age small groups
• Schedule and coordinate with volunteer leaders and classroom assistants
• Be available and approachable in developing relationships with the children and their families; assist in maintaining regular communication
• Support Director of Family Ministries with long term planning for teaching and events and with volunteer training and appreciation initiatives
• Work closely with Youth Ministry Associate
• Help organize, set up, and run special events for children and families
• Participate in sanctuary service with children on a regular basis
• Work on teams to plan and lead summer Vacation Bible School (not offered in 2019, but anticipated in 2020) and offsite week-long summer day camp at a First Nations reserve
• Assist in organizing and running intergenerational events (e.g., "Bethlehem on Yonge") and other initiatives to foster dynamic community
