One of the most distinguished preachers in Canada, the late Dr. Gladstone sustained a great ministry here at Yorkminster Park for over 26 years and, upon his retirement in 1991, was appointed Minister Emeritus. During his retirement years he often took part in the leadership of worship at Yorkminster Park. He died on January 4, 2005 after a lengthy illness.
Dr. Gladstone wrote a number of books and his tapes and sermons are still available through the church. He preached widely in both Canada and the United States, where he served for some time as interim Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Washington, DC. Dr. Gladstone also served a term as Chancellor of Tyndale University and Seminary in Toronto. He delivered lectures on preaching in San Francisco, Nova Scotia, and Australia.
The Gladstone Library at Yorkminster Park is named in honour of both Dr. Gladstone and his late wife Joyce. One of the three residences of The House of Compassion is also named in his honour as is the Preaching Chair at Acadia Divinity College and a preaching lectureship at McMaster Divinity College.
