Associate Minister (Pastoral Care)

The Reverend John R. Torrance, BA, MDiv

The Reverend John R. Torrance joined our pastoral team in September, 2002 in the capacity of Associate Minister — Pastoral Care. John was raised on a farm near the town of Claremont, Ontario, and graduated from McMaster Divinity College in 1972. He was ordained at Frank St. Baptist Church in Wiarton, in October 1972. He served Baptist churches in Wiarton, Stratford, (Ontario Street); and Ottawa, (Bethany); before moving to Central Baptist, Sarnia, in 1996.

His major responsibility at Yorkminster Park is in the area of Pastoral Care. Among other things, he maintains the Church Connector programme, leads our Don Mills Bible Study group and shares in the leadership of worship.

Over the years, John has been involved in camping programmes, primarily at Camp Hermosa, and the Eastern Area Camp Committee. From June 2004 to June 2005 he is President of the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec.

John maintains an interest in Biblical Archeology, and enjoys curling. His wife, Margaret, taught adult literacy in Sarnia and belonged to the handbell choir at Central Baptist in that city. John and Margaret's youngest son, Andrew, attends High School in Toronto. He is also a Cabin Leader at Camp Hermosa in the summer. Their eldest son Scott, is in the ski instruction industry near Edmonton, and their second son, Chris, and his wife Sonya live near Perth, Ontario, where he is studying Historical Stone Masonry at Algonquin College.
