ASSOCIATE MINISTER: PASTORAL CARE

Responsibilities

The Associate Minister: Pastoral Care shall be responsible for providing leadership in the ongoing development and coordination of the pastoral care ministries with an eye for creativity and a heartfelt sensitivity to the wide range of pastoral concerns. Specifically, the Associate Minister: Pastoral Care shall be responsible for the following:

  • Shall be accountable to the congregation through the Board of Deacons and the Minister of the Congregation.
  • Shall work in close consultation with the ministerial team, the Church Council, the Parish Nurse, the Pastoral Care Committee, the Health and Wellness Committee and other relevant groups and committees.
  • Shall be present and involved in the leadership of worship through the offering of elements of the liturgy under the direction of the Minister of the Congregation.
  • May preach up to twice a month.
  • Shall coordinate weekly intercessory prayer services, maintain a congregational prayer list, and coordinate special services of Healing and Blessing; Homecoming; Communion with shut-ins; Comfort & Hope (with the Parish Nurse); and others as the needs arise.
  • Shall conduct weddings and funerals as called upon and provide the appropriate pastoral preparation and follow-up for these events.
  • Shall engage in a ministry of visitation among the sick, shut-in, bereaved and elderly of the congregation.
  • Shall oversee the church connector program or similar program and ensure the necessary training for lay pastoral visitors and/or church connectors.
  • Shall supervise the work of the Parish Nurse and in coordination with the parish nurse shall develop support groups as necessary such as bereavement support, or employment transition support.
  • Shall work with lay people in developing a senior’s ministry and program which may include events such as Smile Theatre and bus trips to Stratford and Niagara.
  • Shall coordinate and oversee the benevolent ministry and benevolent fund of the church.
  • Shall work as the ministerial team’s liaison with the Board of Mission
  • May supervise theological students as necessary.
  • Shall provide leadership in the congregation in the absence of the Minister of the Congregation.

Qualifications

The Associate Minister: Pastoral Care
  • Shall have a personal commitment to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and a demonstrated call to ministry.
  • Should have at least a M.Div. degree from a recognized seminary.
  • Shall have ordination credentials within the Canadian Baptist Ministries family of churches, or credentials that will be recognized and accepted by the BCOQ.
  • Shall be a team player working and serving with a cooperative spirit.
  • Shall have the heart of a pastor and maintain an active devotional life.
  • Shall ordinarily have had the prior experience of having served as the minister of a church.

ASSOCIATE MINISTER: DISCIPLESHIP AND SPRITUAL GROWTH

Responsibilities

The Associate Minister: Discipleship and Spiritual Growth shall be responsible for providing leadership in the ongoing development and coordination of discipleship ministries with a visionary approach to equipping God’s people with Biblical knowledge, theological understanding, and spiritual growth towards a renewed sense of stewardship and service. Specifically, the Associate Minister: Discipleship and Spiritual Growth shall be responsible for the following:

  • Shall be accountable to the congregation through the Board of Deacons and the Minister of the Congregation.
  • Shall work in close consultation with the ministerial team, the Church Council, the Board of Christian Education, the Stewardship Committee, and other relevant groups and committees.
  • Shall develop and coordinate an intentional network of Bible studies within the life of the congregation and provide leadership training.
  • Shall develop and coordinate a schedule and roster of courses and classes to be offered as part of the Sunday ministry prior to or following church services, and shall seek to encourage and enable a team of teachers and leaders from within the congregation.
  • Shall coordinate an introductory course for seekers and new Christians and develop lay leadership to assist with the program.
  • Shall work with the ministerial team in the development and implementation of church membership classes.
  • Shall work with the Stewardship Committee in the development of a holistic stewardship program including the development of a confidential register of people’s spiritual gifts, talents and training that can be used to strengthen the volunteer base of the church.
  • Shall coordinate and model a program which encourages spiritual growth through intentional Bible study, prayer, devotion and mentoring.
  • Shall coordinate a program of lectures, seminars and/or workshops of an educational nature apart from the Sunday schedule.
  • Shall act as a liaison with seminaries and other training institutions regarding the development of an ongoing program involving our ministerial team in the supervision of students.
  • Shall seek to ensure the accessibility and availability of Christian educational resources.
  • Shall be present and involved in the leadership of worship through the offering of elements of the liturgy and occasional sermons under the direction of the Minister of the Congregation.
  • Shall conduct weddings and funerals as called upon and provide the appropriate pastoral preparation and follow-up for these events.

Qualifications

  • Shall have a personal commitment to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and a demonstrated call to ministry.
  • Should have at least a M.Div. degree from a recognized seminary.
  • Shall have ordination credentials within the Canadian Baptist Ministries family of churches, or credentials that will be recognized and accepted by the BCOQ.
  • Shall be a team player working and serving with a cooperative spirit.
  • Shall have the gifts of a teacher and the spirit of one who longs to enable people to grow in their faith and to equip them for ministry.
  • Shall maintain an active devotional life.
  • Shall ordinarily have had a background in ministry and experience in the field of Christian education.

DIRECTOR OF YOUTH MINISTRY AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH

The Director of Youth Ministry and Community Outreach provides leadership to the ongoing development of the program for youth and young adults at Yorkminster Park Baptist Church. The strong emphasis on community outreach and program development is focused primarily on youth and young adults however may involve collaborative work within the church and the community; for example the Churches on the Hill and local schools.

As a member of the ministerial team, the Director works collaboratively with the ministers towards meeting the identified goals and objectives of the church.

This full-time position requires flexibility as the Director will need to be accessible and visible during evening and weekend events or activities, including Sunday worship.

Responsibilities

  • Spiritual Development: to nurture the spiritual growth of the YPBC youth and young adults, primarily those in the 12 – 25 year age range to provide leadership to weekly Bible study or discussion groups
  • Relational Leadership: To establish regular personal contact with each member of the youth group and young adults. To develop and promote a sense of community within the youth group; a safe place where all are welcome. To contact new youth and young adults attending church or church activities
  • Leadership Development: To demonstrate and teach leadership skills to core group of youth equipping them with the skills to effectively reach out into the community connecting with young people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. To provide leadership in the development and support of programs for youth and young adults at YPBC and in the community.
  • Community Outreach: To engage community partners in collaborative program development aimed at local youth and young adults
  • Event Planning: Working collaboratively with youth and young adults, lay leaders, the ministers of the church, Board of Christian Education and the Youth Ministry Committee, the Director will plan and participate in regular social events for youth such as sports activities or community events
  • Family Focus: The focus of ministry to youth and young adults is the family, in all its various manifestations. To involve the family of the youth in meaningful and intentional ways. To communicate with and engage parents or caregivers in this important ministry. To provide support to families
  • Community Service/Social Justice awareness: To engage youth and young adults in appropriate community service activities e.g. Out of the Cold, House of Compassion, Meals on Wheels, intergenerational activities
  • Advocacy: Advocate on behalf of the youth and young adults within the church organization
  • Reporting: As part of the ministerial team, the Director of Youth Ministry and Community Outreach reports directly to the Minister of the Congregation. The Director also works collaboratively with the Director of Christian Education, the Board of Christian Education and the Youth Ministry Committee
  • Accountability: Prepare regular reports for Minister of the Congregation, the Deacons’ Board and Board of Christian Education regarding ministry activities and plans. Develop and manage the budget for ministry to youth and young adults

Qualifications

  • Shall have a personal commitment to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and a demonstrated call to ministry.
  • The ideal candidate is a highly motivated leader, able to work independently and with proven skills in working with groups.
  • Masters degree in youth ministry, Christian Education or related field preferred.
  • A commitment to working with youth and young adults is crucial.
  • A strong understanding of current issues facing youth and young adults with proven skills in addressing these issues
  • Experience working with a team towards a common vision and goal
  • Excellent communication skills; negotiating and conflict management skills
  • Related and relevant experience in a large urban centre is also required.
  • Experience in community program development is an asset.
