There Be Light!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It was just over a year ago we had the joy and privilege of dedicating the long awaited Creation Window above our west gallery. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The spectacular stained glass window was crafted over a period of two years by the Kathryn and Jane Irwin of the Art Zone Studio to honour the late Betty Howson whose children funded the memorial window.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-401 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.yorkminsterpark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/DSC03695-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.yorkminsterpark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/DSC03695-300x225.jpg 300w, called, \u2018Let There Be light,\u2019 from the first day of creation.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Wonderfully, the light often renders variations in the brightness of the reds and yellows and sharpness of the blues depending on the time of day and where the sun is in the sky.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>At times it also casts those same colours onto the walls of the nave and up into the chancel depending on the time of year. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The colours dance and sing in sacred wonderment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">One evening last week as the sun was setting the Creation Window appeared to have been transformed.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>So great was the variation that one might have thought the artists had returned to stain the glass with new colours, but of course the artist was God, the giver of light.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I pray the wonder and beauty of God\u2019s light and love are reflected as well in our lives as we seek to follow the One who is the Light of the World. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-409 class=\"s1\">I was searching for just the right words to sum up the wonder of light when I came across a poem crafted by the British poet Malcolm Guite entitled Seven Whole Days.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>While the poem was inspired by the George Herbert hymn, the first day or stanza of the poem almost seems to have been written for our window.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is published in his book, Parable and Paradox, 2016 Canterbury Press.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Feast your hearts and eyes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Let there be light as I begin this day,<br \/>\n<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><i>To draw me from the darkness and the night,<br \/>\n<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><i>To bless my flesh, to clear and show my way,<br \/>\n<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><i>Let there be light.<br \/>\n<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><i>Strong in the depth and shining from the height,<br \/>\n<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><i>Evening and morning\u2019s interplay,<br \/>\n<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><i>Blessing and enabling my sight.<br \/>\n<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><i>Lighten my soul and teach me how to pray,<br \/>\n<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><i>Lighten my mind and teach me wrong from right,<br \/>\n<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><i>In all I do and think and see and say<br \/>\n<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><i>Let there be light.\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"
