Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering is the backbone of our church community. It not only allows us to run wonderful programs and activities, and roots us in the fabric of our wider community, but it also enriches the lives of our volunteers through the joy of serving others and the friendship and fellowship inherent in working together.

To volunteer opportunities or for more information at Yorkminster Park, please click here or call (416) 922-1167.

Listed below are some of our immediate needs:

Christmas Tree Set UP

COME JOIN US
Helpers needed for Christmas set-up of the Sanctuary on Tuesday, December 1. Our two beautiful Sanctuary Christmas trees will be put up. We need volunteers to help with the assembly of the trees, the fluffing of branches, the testing and installation of the lights and other related tasks. Even if you can only come for two or three hours, your help is important. Please come to the Church between 7:30am and 11:30am.

Out of the Cold

On Wednesday, November 4, 2015, we will once again open our weekly Out of the Cold drop-in centre for those needing food and temporary shelter. Our program runs from the first Wednesday evening/Thursday morning of November to the first
Wednesday evening/Thursday morning of April.

There is a particular need for volunteers on the overnight shift (11pm–6am) and the breakfast service/clean-up (6am–8 am). For the breakfast shift, we need 8 people to help in the kitchen once per month, and also 4 strong people keen to get their morning gym workout at the same time as serving in ministry. If you are interested, or would like more information, please contact Trevor Sinker at tsinker@gmail.com

Churches on-the-Hill Food Bank

November suggested donations are tins of canned ham for use in Christmas hampers. Apart from other food needs already listed here, the Food Bank is also looking for plastic bags.  So if you have extra plastic grocery bags, please remember the food bank.   At the moment, egg cartons are no longer needed.  Many thanks. Donations can be left in the donation box just outside the Sanctuary (north east exit), near the doors to the Friendship Room. Thank you for your support on behalf of the clients.

The Annual Churches on-the-Hill Foodbank Food drive dates are November 7th and 14th. Both Volunteers and donations are needed.

Yorkminster Park works with other churches in the area to provide provisions for the food bank and staff the drop-in centre during hours of operation. Thank you for your generosity.
