‘Extravagant Generosity: The Heart of Giving’

Sunday, January 29th Theme: Bucket Lists: Vision and Hope Are inspirations of the Heart

1. To be a worshipping church, where we broaden our worship experiences so that we are inspired to greater faith and commitment.

2. To be a people of the Word - studying, applying, and living in accordance with Biblical wisdom and spiritual understanding.

3. To be a people of prayer, where prayer is more fully understood and is experienced as an integral part of healthy Christian faith.

4. To be a church that actively engages the world around it and nutures its sacred task of community and disciple building within the church.

5. To be an intergenerational, mulitcultural community of Christian faith where we are untied as one on our journey.

6. To be a people of simplicity, releasing our time, talent and resources for connection with community and our families.

These are the themes as we dream together about who God is calling us to be and what he is calling us to do in this place and time. However, these objectives are but the skeleton and we need you to dream with us and work with us as we seek to give these objectives shape and form in the prayerful hope God will use them for his glory.

Please look over our objectives and take time to think of one or two ways in which you think these hopes can take shape. Then use this 'Heart of Giving Card' to write down your ideas and dreams for the church. Bring it with you and place it on the offering plate, or mail or email it back to us.

Scripture:

Then afterward I will pour out my spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. (Joel 2:28 NRSV)

So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. (Colossians 3:1 NRSV)

But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33 NRSV)

Prayer:

God of vision and hope, you are the one who enables us to dream dreams. Today we ask you to help us set our minds on things above so that we might dream your dreams. Align our priorities with yours so that we desire to make changes in our lives-changes that will result in Extravagant Generosity. Replace our greed with contentment and our complacency about the needs of others with a passion to give and serve as Christ did. Move us out of our comfort zones, Lord, and fill us with faith so that we may practice greater generosity and grow in love-for you and for others. Amen.
