Parish Nurse

Mrs. Catherine (Cathy) Newman, RN, BScN, CPMHNC

Catherine Newman is the Parish Nurse for Yorkminster Park where she serves as a part-time member of our Ministry Team.

Prior to becoming a nurse, Cathy was a community worker providing outreach, counselling and support in various settings serving youth and families. Now a nurse, for almost twenty years, Cathy was first introduced to Yorkminster Park in 2011 through her role as the nurse for the Out of the Cold program under the sponsorship of Toronto Central Community Care Access Center. Her qualifications include special training in diabetes, mental health and substance use problems, plus extensive experience in acute, chronic and end of life care. Cathy has provided services in a wide range of community based clinical settings including Home Care, and subscribes to the position that good health outcomes are the results of “the right care, at the right time, in the right place” and this includes where we all live, work and worship.

Cathy identifies the relationship between faith and health as the main framework for her nursing work and cites the following scriptures as enduring inspiration in facing health challenges with faith and hope. “Be anxious for nothing! But in every situation, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”- Philippians 4: 4-9. “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert” - Isaiah 43:19.

The YMP Parish Nurse is available for a range of individual, family and community health related matters.

Wed: 12:30pm-4:30pm
Thu: 9:30am-12:30pm
