About Dr. Wendy VanderWal Martin
Wendy VanderWal Martin is a sought-after speaker, author, and ministry leader. She first encountered the life-changing wisdom of Henri Nouwen as a hurting 16-year-old-an experience that set the trajectory for her vocation and faith. Today, Wendy serves as a Director at the Henri Nouwen Society. With more than two decades of ministry experience, Wendy has worked alongside marginalized communities, accompanied those wounded by the church, and helped cultivate vibrant spiritual communities. Known for her warmth, passion, joy, and humor, she speaks compellingly to the realities of our anxious, distracted, and isolated world.
About the Henri Nouwen Society
The Henri Nouwen Society exists to carry forward the spiritual vision of Henri Nouwen - namely, to help people come to see themselves as "God's Beloved," and to be transformed through that recognition.
At its core, the Society seeks to introduce Nouwen's writings and spiritual theology to new generations and spiritually hungry seekers through creative programs, partnerships, publications, and other initiatives.
It also preserves, promotes, and facilitates engagement with Nouwen's legacy - from daily meditations, podcasts, and newsletters to lectures, symposia, spiritual direction, and educational resources - so that his ideas about solitude, community, compassion, spirituality, and social justice remain alive and accessible.
Finally, the Society aims to build community and belonging encouraging individuals to grow spiritually, connect with others, and translate Nouwen's message into compassionate, faith-rooted action in the world. Learn more >
