"Prayer & Praise Hymns of the Black Religious Experience"
Dr. Abbington will discuss the hymnology of the African American Church between Spirituals and Gospel. There will be an emphasis on the contribution of the late, Wyatt Tee Walker, formerly of the Canaan Baptist Church of Christ in Harlem, and author of Somebody's Calling My Name: Black Sacred Music and Social Change.
