Black Heritage Month YPBC 2025 Inspirational Events with James Abbington

Dr. James Abbington of Emory University in Atlanta, considered to be the Dean of African American sacred music, will be with us via Zoom Wednesday, January 29th and in person the weekend of February 1st and 2nd.

"Prayer & Praise Hymns of the Black Religious Experience"

Dr. Abbington will discuss the hymnology of the African American Church between Spirituals and Gospel. There will be an emphasis on the contribution of the late, Wyatt Tee Walker, formerly of the Canaan Baptist Church of Christ in Harlem, and author of Somebody's Calling My Name: Black Sacred Music and Social Change.
